Scary Kids Scaring Kids released the After Dark EP and two studio albums The City Sleeps in Flames and the self-titled Scary Kids Scaring Kids with the late member and lead vocalist Tyson Stevens. The band disbanded following a farewell tour in 2010.

In 2019, the group reunited to release their third studio album, Out of Light.

Rather than replace Tyson with a new permanent vocalist, the band chose to honor his memory by featuring a different lead vocalist on each track, including many who toured with the band in the early 2000s (Spencer Chamberlain of Underoath, ModSun, Cove Reber of Saosin, Matt Macdonald of The Classic Crime) as well as vocalists they had come to appreciate after disbanding (Vaines aka Rat Park, Lil Lotus, Donovan Molero of Hail the Sun, Michael Swank of Foxera, Noah Sebastian of Bad Omens).
